Summer vacation may have just begun but back-to-school season is right around the corner. Along with back-to-school season is also our favorite weekend.
Tax-Free weekend, a weekend consumers shop for school supplies, clothing and computers without having to pay sales tax. But this year you may notice a few changes to the Tax-Free weekend list.
Some of the items you were looking forward to purchasing may no longer be on the list while others may have a lower limit.
To cut back on property taxes, Florida lawmakers decided to scale back on the tax-free holiday. Clothing and shoes which had a cap of $100 each last year, will now have a cap of $60 each.
School supplies will still be tax-free up to $15 each. Most school supply items still qualify but others like staplers and computer paper do not.
Computers and computer accessories will no longer be tax-free eligible. Last year, shoppers saved big on personal computers up to $750 each as well as accessories to go along with them. This year, we will not be looking forward to those savings.
While you may not see the savings in taxes, you still have an opportunity to save. Lawmakers state there should be no issues with using coupons or taking advantage of B.O.G.O. deals.
You will also be able to shop online and still take advantage. According to officials, sales tax should not be charged on online orders. Even if those orders are delivered after the holiday weekend.
2016 Back to School Tax-Free holiday will begin Friday, August 5, 2016 at 12:01 a.m. and will end Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 11:59 p.m.
