5 People Killed After Box Truck Runs Stop Sign

HERNANDO, FL – According to Florida Highway Patrol Troopers, a 2007 International Box Truck was traveling south bound on Citrus Way when the Tampa driver, Randy Escobar-Barrera, 22, ran a stop sign at the intersection of Citrus Way and Ponce de Leon Boulevard. striking a pickup truck traveling west bound on SR 700.

The incident happened at around 10:30 am on Monday morning.

The 2006 Chevy pickup truck was hauling a utility trailer at the time. The incredible impact of the accident caused the pickup to catch fire killing all 5 occupants of the pickup.

Escobar-Barrera suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to the Bayonet Point Hospital, according to Troopers. Escobar-Barrera’s passenger, 41 year old Ariel Baez, was transported by ambulance with minor injuries.

The five people killed have not been publicly identified yet. No arrests have been listed on the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office site yet in reference to this incident  at the time of this article.
