BUSHNELL – According to FHP reports, the driver of an older-model Saturn was reportedly on their cell phone when they veered into a semi-truck’s lane early this morning just after 6:00 a.m..
The Brooksville truck driver, Richard W. Brook, 46, was traveling southbound on I-75 in Sumter County when the Saturn veered into the right lane causing the semi to swerve on the shoulder. The semi then hit the guard rail, and jackknifed causing the cab to land on its passenger side.
Troopers believe the driver of the Saturn, who left the scene of the accident, may have been busy on their cell phone after Brook reported observing a light like that of a cell phone visible inside the Saturn.
Brook was not seriously injured, however, the accident caused a backup on I-75 for three hours.
If you have any information on the driver who fled the scene, please contact your local FHP.
