LEESBURG – A Leesburg woman was arrested Wednesday afternoon and charged with child neglect after her child nearly drowned in a pool.
Lake EMS and Leesburg Police officers responded to an emergency call at Laurel Oaks Apartment complex on July 4th in regards to a 14-month-old who had drowned.
Brittany Ann Rowe, 25, went down to the pool at the Laural Oaks apartment complex with 4 small children. According to police reports, the 14-month-old was left unattended when he entered the kiddie pool area. The child fell face first into the water and was in the water for about 6 minutes of which 4 minutes he was unable to breathe.
The child’s aunt performed CPR and was able to revive him momentarily. She continued CPR until EMS responders arrived. He was then airlifted to Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital.
After completing their investigation, Leesburg Police issued an arrest warrant for Rowe. She was arrested Wednesday morning and booked into the Lake County Jail. She was released a little over an hour after being booked when she posted a $2,000 bond.
Rowe is scheduled for her first appearance in Lake County court on August 1st.
The actual condition of the child is unknown. Although, according to a comment left on the Daily Commercial’s post of this incident, a Facebook user, believed to be the woman who performed CPR, commented that he is back at home and doing well.
