TAVARES – Mayor Robert Wolfe was released from Lake County Jail just moments after being booked for insurance fraud.
Wolfe turned himself into the Lake County Sheriff’s office when the State Attorney issued a warrant for his arrest as a result of an investigation by the Florida Department of Financial Services.
The investigation began back in February when Wolfe filed a $9,000 insurance claim through his insurance company. In the claim, Wolfe stated that he had to rent a home temporarily while his home was under repairs from some damage.
During their investigation, the Department of Financial Services collected witness statements and surveillance video footage that shows that Wolfe never left his residence.
An arrest warrant was issued for Wolfe for insurance fraud. Wolfe turned himself into authorities and was booked at 11:18 p.m.
Wolfe did not spend much time at the Lake County Jail, however. According to arrest records, he was released after posting a $2,000 bond just 38 minutes later.
