OCKLAWAHA – Marion County deputies responded to a battery call at 7:14 pm Tuesday night at 11256 SE 156th Avenue in Ocklawaha. According to witnesses, the suspect in the home, identified as 34-year-old Jose Molina, slammed a pregnant female’s head into the passenger side of his pickup truck.
Witnesses also stated that Molina threatened to harm the victim and any law enforcement official if anyone reported the incident.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they began to assess the situation and decided to dispatch the Marion County SWAT team and the Crisis Negotiations Unit.
The standoff between Molina and SWAT lasted about five hours in which time Molina refused to take any calls from the negotiators. After five hours, however, Molina finally took their call.
After speaking to the negotiator, Molina exited the home and peacefully surrendered himself to deputies at approximately 12:30 am Wednesday morning. Molina was safely taken into custody and the victim was also removed from the home safely.
“We are overwhelmingly thankful that this incident ended peacefully for the victim, our deputies and the suspect involved. Receiving information that a suspect has made threats against innocent citizens and law enforcement raises extreme concern and I am proud of our employees for the professionalism they demonstrated during this incident,” Sherif Emery Gainey announced in a statement.
