MOUNT DORA – Evans Park had a bit of a change of scenery this past weekend with the second annual Mount Dora Seafood Festival. The smell of fresh crawfish, crab, oysters and other seafood filled the air as over 100 vendors lined the roads and sidewalks of this year’s festival. Pirates walked around in their best costumes, vendors sold their homemade goods, music resonated through the park from the live band, and spectators filled the streets by the thousands during the two-day event.
An event that attracted an estimated 5,000 people and 50 vendors last year proved to be popular this year by almost tripling their attendance to close to 15,000 event goers. Some of the people we spoke with even stated they came from out of town and stayed in nearby hotels and motels to attend the event.
In a city well known for its famous boat shows and water activities, a seafood festival seemed like the best logical addition to its summer activities and is expected to grow even more next year.
