SORRENTO – On Saturday, 57-year-old Charles Woods was arrested at Wekiva Falls Park, where he was an employee, for molesting a young girl under the age of 12.
The incident took place in a trailer that Woods and a roommate, Mike Kirkland, lived in at the park. Kirkland walked in on Woods engaging in inappropriate activity with the young victim. He stated to police that he saw Woods standing over the girl, holding on to her waist, as she was laying on the bed with her knees bent up to her chest. The girl was fully clothed and Woods had his shorts on, but Kirkland also stated that he could clearly see that Woods’ zipper was down and his shorts were pulled apart, exposing his blue underwear. Kirkland then went to find help. As he was leaving, Woods exclaimed, “Mike, I’m sorry.”
The police then arrived on scene and found Woods in his vehicle, sitting in the driver’s seat with the door open, having a conversation with the young girl. The police immediately separated the two, and Woods turned to the officer and said, “I know,” as he turned around with his hands behind his back.
The young girl was very upset and repeatedly asked if she was going to jail, trying to figure out what was going on around her. She exclaimed that Woods was her “best friend”. The officers then located the girl’s mother in the park to help with the investigation.
The mother stated that they visit Wekiva Falls Park once a month and have never had any issues. She said that all of the children seemed to like Woods quite a bit.
The officers then spoke with the young girl, who stated that she went into the trailer with Woods, and he placed her on her stomach on the bed. She was fully clothed, but he exposed his private parts to her and then began to hump her. The young girl then began to yell at Woods to stop and tried to crawl away from him. As she was trying to get away, he quickly grabbed her and pulled her back towards him and pinned her down, stating, “It’s okay. I do this to my nieces and nephews.” The young girl stated that this was the first time Woods had done anything like this to her.
Woods is being charged with Lewd Lascivious Molestation on a Victim Under 12 yrs of Age, Child Abuse, and False Imprisonment. He is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on a $815,000 bond.
