The Citrus County Sheriff’s Office is praising two of its detectives for obtaining probable cause for the arrest of a suspect in the armed robbery of Advance America in the Citrus Plaza in Inverness.
The robbery took place on September 3 about 10:40 am, when the suspect entered the business and pulled a gun on the merchant, demanding cash. He then fled with the money and left in a red pickup.
Working with a team from Major crimes and the Tactical Impact Unit., Detective Brian Melhado and Deputy Danny Keszthelyi arrested 46-year old Aaron Jabar Betsy and charged him with armed robbery, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, and four counts of aggravated assault with a firearm.
Officers responded to Betsy’s father’s house on Spaulding Dr. in Citrus Springs where, just before their arrival, another deputy spotted the suspect walking down the road and then running into the woods. He was taken into custody without incident. The CCSO also credited the team’s ID/Evidence technicians for lifting a fingerprint at the scene that identified the suspect.
