TAVARES – A Florida Highway Patrol Trooper is behind bars after an investigation into allegations that he touched a woman inappropriately during a traffic stop.
According to Lt. John Herrell, 35-year-old Trooper David Gonzalez was arrested shortly after 1:00 pm on Wednesday afternoon after monitoring a SnapChat conversation between Gonzalez and the victim on September 27th.
The 21-year-old victim told detectives that Trooper Gonzalez pulled her over earlier this month along US Hwy 441 for speeding near ViaPort. She reported that Gonzalez complimented her on her looks and then instructed her to move her vehicle down a side street where she was asked to step out of her car.
According to the victim, when she stepped out of her car, Gonzalez took her phone and added himself to her SnapChat account and instructed her to take a selfie with him. The victim also reported that Gonzalez proceeded to hug her, kiss her, and grope her breast against her will.
According to reports, Gonzalez made statements that confirmed the victim’s story during the monitored SnapChat conversation. A warrant was issued early Wednesday morning for Gonzalez’s arrest.
Detectives arrested Gonzalez for Battery and booked him into the Lake County Jail where he is currently being held on a $10,000 bond.
