Prank Ends with Two South Lake High Students in Jail

GROVELAND – Two students are behind bars after pranking students at South Lake High School Friday morning.

According to Lt. John Herrell, the two students were arrested by the school’s Resource Deputy after the students were reportedly approaching other students wearing masks from the movie The Purge: Anarchy in the parking lot and scaring them as they exited their vehicles.

According to the report, one of the students, an 18-year-old, was arrested and charged with wearing a mask to intimidate which is a misdemeanor offense according to Florida State Statute 876.20. That student received a citation and a mandatory court date.

The other student, a juvenile, was arrested and referred to a Sheriff’s Office diversionary program which may help the student avoid having the charge on his record if completed successfully.

The names of the students have not been released due to their age.
