DUNNELLON – Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to Dunnellon Airport Friday afternoon after a report that a man fell from approximately 1200 feet from a small passenger plane. The male victim, who has not been identified pending notification of relatives, was reportedly a jump-master and was part of a group of jumpers engaging in military-style parachuting.
Witnesses reported that the victim was kneeling by the jump door when his reserve chute accidentally deployed and pulled him from the aircraft, causing him to hit the side of the airplane and fall to the ground. It was not known if his military-style parachute ever deployed. Upon arrival on the scene the victim was pronounced deceased by paramedics. The incident reportedly occurred around 5:30 pm on Friday October 14th. MCSO Major Crimes detectives also responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident.
