OCALA – An Ocala bicyclist is in critical condition after being involved in an accident in Ocala Tuesday afternoon just after 1:00 pm.
According to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol, 36-year-old Daniel Sarabia was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of US Highway 441 in Ocala near County Road 328 on his Huffy bicycle when he crossed over the median and merged onto the northbound lane.
The report states that Sarabia did not notice the 1999 Kenworth semi truck in the northbound lane when he merged.
The driver of the semi truck, 45-year-old Robert Adams of Denton, North Carolina, tried to avoid Sarabia by applying the brakes, however, he ended up striking the rear of Sarabia’s bicycle with the left front side of the semi causing the bicycle to overturn.
Adams swerved the semi to the outer right lane of US Highway 441and came to a stop facing northwest blocking the right lane.
Sarabia was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
The incident is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol and charges are pending.
