Two Trains Collide in Citra Causing Massive Fuel Spill

CITRA – Two trains collided early Wednesday morning causing a massive fuel spill in Citra just after 4:00 am.

According to the Marion County Fire Rescue, responders including HAZMAT and CSX workers are working quickly to clean up a nearly 4,000-gallon fuel spill after the two engines collided.

According to CSX officials, one of the trains was carrying coal and the other was carrying fertilizer. An estimated twenty cars were overturned during the incident causing coal and fertilizer to spill onto nearby roads.

Traffic was being redirected around Pine Church Road (175th Street) while officials cleaned the scene.

It is still unknown as to what caused the collision.

No major injuries have been reported at this time. Workers are still on scene.
