LEESBURG – Lake County deputies are on the lookout for two suspects involved in a retail theft that occurred at a Leesburg Dollar General located at 7940 US Hwy 441 (Old Vic’s Embers site) on Monday night at approximately 6:00 pm.
According to a report issued by the responding officer, a call was received by the store clerk after two black male suspects fled the store with several items including a broom and paper towels without paying for them.
In a phone interview, a Dollar General employee told the Central Florida Wire that one of the suspects was a black male with “fine” hair cut very short and the other was a tall black male with “dreads”.
The suspects originally came in the store previously and attempted to purchase a $300 Amazon Gift card using a credit card. The transaction was declined and the suspects left the store. According to the report, the suspects returned to the store a short time later and attempted the sale again. The transaction was successful the second time.
One of the suspects then tried three more transactions, each time being declined. After the third time, the store clerk went to the office to consult with a co-worker which is when the suspects fled the store with several items.
Deputies canvased the area searching for the suspects but were unable to find anyone matching the descriptions in the area.
Anyone with information on the identity of the suspects is asked to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Department at (352)343-2101 and reference case number 160170935.
