Marion County School Bus Crashes Into Drunk Driver with Students on Board

OCALA – A Marion County School Bus crashed into a drunk driver Friday afternoon while students were still on board according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred just before 5:00 pm on the corner of Baseline Road (State Road 35) and Southeast 38th Street.

According to the report, the bus driver, 59-year-old Alpha Franklin, was traveling northbound in the outside lane when the driver directly in front of the bus began to slow down to make a right turn onto a private driveway.

Franklin did not slow down quickly enough causing the bus to strike the rear of the 2003 Honda SUV driven by 73-year-old Horst Stuckenbrock.

The impact of the collision sent Suckenbrock’s vehicle spinning up a hill. Once the vehicle reached the top of the hill, it came back down the hill where it struck the bus a second time.

During the investigations, troopers found Stuckenbrock to be driving under the influence.

Stuckenbrock was arrested and transported to the Marion County Jail where he was later released after posting a $1,000 bond.

Franklin has issued a citation for careless driving.

Neither the drivers nor the students were injured during the incident.
