TAVARES – Residents of Lake County will now have the opportunity to learn more about cooking healthy for the holidays, pruning trees, and even attracting wildlife in their backyard with new classes offered by the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) Extension in Lake County.
The UF/IFAS will be hosting three classes in December and all residents are invited beginning with the “Building Backyard Habitats” class. This class will be held on December 6th at 12:00 pm at the Clermont Garden Club located at 849 West Avenue in Clermont.
At the “Building Backyard Habitats” class, residents can learn how to attract butterflies, birds, bats, and even bees. The event will be presented by the Lake County Master Gardeners and the Clermont garden Club. Residents wanting to attend this class are required to pre-register HERE. The fee for this class is $5 per person and can be paid online during pre-registration or by cash or check at the Lake County Extension center located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.
The next event, “Happy Holidays Meals” , will be hosted at the Leesburg Public Library on December 5th at 2:00 pm. Resident can learn how to prepare healthy holiday recipes without sacrificing flavor. Anyone interested in joining is required to pre-register HERE. Registration is free.
Residents with food allergies attending the Happy Holidays Meals event are advised to consult with the host before eating as food may contain milk, egg, gluten, wheat, soybean, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish.
You can also learn how to prune and plant trees for a beautiful landscape at the last class, “Saturday in the Gardens”. This event will be held on December 17th at 10:00 am at the lake County Extension Center. Learn new pruning and planting practices to make your landscape beautiful. Residents interested in attending are required to pre-register HERE. Registration is $5 per person and can be paid online or by cash or check at the Lake County Extension Center.
