OCALA – A fiery accident that occurred in Ocala on State Road 200 and SW 69th Court Road Saturday afternoon ended in the death of one driver according to Florida Highway Patrol.
According to witnesses, the driver of a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle was traveling eastbound on SR 200 at high speeds and was weaving in and out of traffic across all three lanes when it came up on the intersection of SW 69th Court Road.
At the intersection, a 2005 Chevy Lumina, driven by 82-year-old Sonyalea Crammer, was traveling northbound on SW 69th Court Road. Crammer continued through the intersection after stopping at the stop sign when the motorcycle struck her vehicle.
Troopers state that due to the high speed, the driver of the motorcycle was unable to stop in time and collided with the rear driver’s side of the Crammer’s vehicle causing both vehicles to spin and come to rest in the middle of the intersection blocking eastbound traffic.
Crammer’s car was ignited in flames and the motorcycle was stuck in the rear of her vehicle.
Emergency Medical Services declared the driver of the motorcycle deceased on the scene. Crammer was airlifted to Shands Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries according to troopers.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames, however, due to the blaze, investigators were unable to positively identify the driver of the motorcycle.
Troopers are currently waiting to identify the driver in order to notify next of kin.
The crash is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
