Deputies Call Off Search for Man in Radio Road Standoff, Still at Large

LEESBURG – Deptuties called off the search for a man who was involved in a standoff for several hours causing deputies to block off a portion of Radio Road in Leesburg Wednesday evening according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, Lt. John Herrell.

The standoff began when deputies responded to a home on Silver Court Drive to conduct a well-being check after they received a call stating the man was threatening to commit suicide. Deputies along with the Lake County Crisis Command Unit and SWAT attempted to make contact with the man at his home but were not successful.

After a while of attempting to make contact with him, the man was spotted by deputies outside of the home at which time he fled on foot into some nearby woods.

Bloodhounds and the Lake County Sheriff’s helicopter were dispatched to help locate the man.

The search was called off at approximately 7:00 pm at which time they were still unable to locate him.

Herrell stated that deputies will continue to watch the home and patrol the area to attempt to locate him.

Deputies are unsure if the man is armed, however, they do not believe him to be a threat to anyone but himself, Herrell stated in an email.
