TAVARES — Lake County is inviting the community to a public meeting to discuss the future of the Lake County Animal Shelter, which will officially be transferred from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to the Board of County Commissioners on Jan. 15.
The meeting will be held from 6-8 p.m. onMonday, Jan. 23 at the Lake County Extension Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road, Tavares, and will be hosted by Commissioner Leslie Campione and consultant Mike Fry of No Kill Learning.
Topics discussed will include shelter review and recommendations and an overview of no-kill practices. Time will be allotted for public comment and questions.
“We are committed to reforming the Lake County Animal Shelter, but we know we cannot do it alone,” said Commissioner Leslie Campione. “That is why we are reaching out to the community – animal advocates, rescue groups and volunteers – to assist with the shelter’s successful transition.”
In November, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Board of County Commissioners entered into an interlocal agreement for Lake County to assume operation and responsibilities of the Animal Shelter. The Sheriff’s Office will maintain responsibility for Animal Services enforcement.
