FLORAL CITY – A man who was a suspect for allegedly shooting at the Sabal Pipeline early Sunday morning was fatally shot by deputies during a high-speed chase according to reports.
According to the reports, the incident began in Dunnellon when Marion County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Sabal Pipeline at 9:00 am Sunday morning after receiving reports of a man shooting at the pipeline and equipment using a high-powered rifle.
While deputies were responding, the suspect fled the scene into Citrus County triggering a multi-county high-speed chase.
Citrus County deputies and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers located the suspect and initiated a pursuit on US Hwy 41.
The pursuit ended when a Trooper completed a “precision immobilization technique” bringing the suspect’s vehicle to a stop on the shoulder of the road.
When the vehicle stopped, the suspect opened fire on the deputies and troopers.
The deputies and troopers returned fire striking the suspect.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene.
The deputies and troopers did not suffer any injuries.
The suspect’s identity has not been released pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.
