Marion County School Bus Forces Car Into Ditch

OCALA – A Marion County school bus driver was cited early Tuesday morning after Troopers say the driver forced another vehicle into a ditch.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, 51-year-old bus driver Wendy Taylor was traveling northbound on SE 55th Avenue toward SE 28th Street.

After stopping at the stop sign, Taylor continued to turn left onto SE 28th Street directly into the path of a 2014 Toyota Corolla driven by 19-year-old Amber Spofford causing Spofford to swerve in an attempt to avoid a collision.

After swerving around the school bus, Spofford’s vehicle left the roadway and traveled into a ditch striking two concrete drain covers.

Spofford suffered minor injuries according to the report. No other passengers reported any injuries.

At the time of the incident, there were four children on the bus ranging from ages 4 to 9.
