LEESBURG, Fla. – Leesburg Police officers are searching for an SUV believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run accident that left one man in critical condition Wednesday night.
Officers responded to the intersection of U.S. Highway 441 and Mills Street in Leesburg shortly after 8:30 p.m. after receiving a call about a hit-and-run.
According to Lt. Joe Iozzi, the victim who was identified as 19-year-old Nidgel Fernandez-Medina was struck by a vehicle as he walked along the road.
The vehicle was described by witnesses as a large white S.U.V. possibly a General Motors model similar to a Tahoe or Suburban.
After striking Fernandez-Medina, the vehicle fled the area.
Fernandez-Medina was first transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center but was later airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
According to Iozzi, the S.U.V. may have damage to the front end and may be missing a headlight.
