Children and families are invited to educational Parks & Trails events in June

TAVARES— Now that school’s out, it’s the perfect time to gather up the kids for an outdoor adventure with Lake County Parks & Trails. Staff offer free guided excursions, educational hikes and more throughout the month of June. In addition to wildlife-watching, Lake County’s parks, trails, and recreation facilities are ideal places to play a sport, have a picnic, or enjoy time at a playground or dog park. 

Ecology Hike

Saturday, June 3 from 9-11 a.m.

Ellis Acres Reserve, 25302 County Road 42, Paisley

Visit Ellis Acres Reserve and learn about the ecology of the preserve and the nearby Ocala National Forest.

 Science Saturday

Join staff on an adventure of exploration and discovery while brushing up on science. Topics may include arthropod adaptations, animal habitats, outdoor life, aquatic organisms and more.

Land Management 101

Saturday, June 10 from 9-11 a.m.

Pasture Reserve, 5144 Lake Erie Road, Groveland

Learn about land management, how it is being used at Pasture Reserve, and how you can use the same techniques at home to improve habitat for wildlife.

Quarterly Bird & Butterfly Survey

Saturday, June 17 from 7:30-11 a.m.

Ellis Acres Reserve, 25302 County Road 42, Paisley

Volunteers are invited to assist in surveying the reserve’s birds and butterflies. Participants should bring binoculars and field guides. Experience is a plus, but not required.
