LADY LAKE, Fla. – Deputies arrested a trio Tuesday morning while traveling on Buena Vista Boulevard at approximately 9:02 am according to arrest reports.
Sumter County Sheriff’s spokeswoman, Michelle Keszey stated in a press release that the deputy was patrolling the area near the intersection of Buena Vista Boulevard and Talley Ridge Drive when he spotted the suspects in a black Dodge Ram pickup truck.
According to the deputy, the suspects were not wearing their seatbelts so he initiated a traffic stop.
During the traffic stop, dispatchers advised the deputy that the tag on the pickup truck was registered to a stolen Jeep out of Marion County.
Deputies then ran the Vehicle Identification Number and found that the pickup truck was also reported stolen out of Ocala.
The deputy then made contact with the driver, 26-year-old Paul Dean may who told deputies that he was unaware the vehicle was stolen. May told deputies he had borrowed the vehicle from a friend in Summerfield.
During the investigation, deputies also discovered May had an active warrant on unrelated charges out of Kentucky and was currently on probation for grand theft out in a Marion County case.
May was arrested and charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle and violation of probation.
While on the scene, K-9 Mace alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. After searching the vehicle, deputies found two purses that contained narcotics and drug paraphernalia.
One purse, reportedly belonging to 32-year-old Kristen Nada Rogers, contained an “insulin type syringe” that appeared to have blood on the tip of the needle. After conducting a field test, the needle tested positive for methamphetamine.
Rogers admitted to using the needle to inject methamphetamine. She was arrested and charged with possession and use of drug equipment. She was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where she is being held on a $1,000 bond.
Another purse found in the vehicle reportedly belonging to 32-year-old Karen Ann Young contained two glass pipes with residue that tested positive for methamphetamine and a glass vial that contained a “crystalline substance” which also tested positive for meth.
Young admitted to deputies that the pipes belonged to her, according to the report, however, denied any knowledge of the vial with meth.
Young was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug equipment. She was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where she is being held in lieu of a $3,000 bond.
