New Pizza Place Captures Taste Buds of Locals on First Day Open

LEESBURG, Fla. – Dishing out fresh pizza and sandwiches, the new Johnson’s Pizza Pi has captured the attention and the taste buds of many locals right out of the gate.

Restauranteur David Johnson and his wife Heather opened their pizza parlor on July 1 and posts appeared in social media groups the same day urging people to stop in and try their “outstanding pizza and sandwiches”.

After a short visit, we knew what the rage was all about. We stopped in and visited with Johnson and sampled some items off his menu.

The “Combo”, a sandwich that comes with pepperoni, sausage, ham, and cheese cooked in a folded pizza dough rather than served on a traditional hoagie, was my favorite of the night. The juices from the combination of meat were trapped inside the pizza dough keeping in moist and full of flavor while the outside of the dough was layered with butter and garlic and had the perfect crisp.

Our second item was a hand-tossed “Paradise Pi”. A pizza with ham, bacon, and pineapple. The pizza came to our table still steaming fresh from the brick oven. Each slice had a perfectly balanced ratio of sauce, cheese, and toppings and the flavors danced around on our taste buds long after the bite was gone.

The menu was simple yet effective. Customers can order their pizza and add “variables” or toppings to their heart’s desire or order from a selection of specialty pizzas, sandwiches, salads, or sides.

Johnson stated that most of the pizzas listed in their “Specialty Pi” section were ideas from family members and there may be more to come such as a pizza with ranch dressing and another with BBQ sauce.
