Governor Scott Declares State of Emergency

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. –  Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency ahead of Tropical Storm Emily early morning of July 31.

The declaration came when Tropical Depression Six was upgraded to Tropical Storm Emily. Thirty-one Florida counties are affected by this order, including Hillsborough County.

A state of emergency allows the state more flexibility to work with local governments in preparations for the upcoming storm. Florida’s National Guard is ready to help in the event of emergency. Those in the affected areas are advised to stock up on their storm needs, as these storms can form and move quickly. Residents are encouraged to check FLGetaPlan for a guide to preparation resources.

While a state of emergency is in effect, no evacuation order is currently in place. Residents are advised to watch their local weather stations and news outlets for any updates to the current order.
