TAVARES, Fla. — To better serve Lake County’s growing suburban population which is increasingly opting for public transportation, the county has launched a new, more responsive LakeXpress website at www.ridelakexpress.com.
The site’s re-design offers a consistent user experience across multiple platforms including mobile devices, tablets, and desktop computers. The “Trip Planner” function integrates with Google Transit to enable patrons to get directions on the LakeXpress fixed route system; while a custom-built interactive schedule and maps application allows users to view route maps, find bus stops, and view bus arrival times. Further, the site was built according to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines and can be translated into various languages using Google Translate.
The website was developed in-house by Communications Department staff in close coordination with Lake County Transit.
“We were excited to partner with Lake County Transit to offer a user-friendly website for transit patrons,” said Kelly LaFollette, director of Lake County’s Communications Department. “We published the site a few weeks ago as a soft-launch, and so far, we’ve gotten great feedback.”
LakeXpress provides public transit service throughout the county, connecting residents, visitors and employees to educational facilities, recreational activities and employment opportunities. The service operates 5 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. Buses do not run on Saturdays, Sundays and on federal holidays. Service animals are welcome and bicycle racks are available on buses.
Riders may board a bus at established stops along any of the seven designated LakeXpress routes: Route 1 – Leesburg to Eustis, Route 1A – The Villages to Leesburg, Route 2 – City of Leesburg, Route 3 – City of Mount Dora, Route 4 – Altoona to Zellwood, Route 50 East – Clermont to Winter Garden and Route 50 West – Mascotte to Clermont.
