Dunnellon Motorcyclist Killed in Accident

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. – A Dunnellon man was pronounced dead after suffering injuries sustained in an accident on US Highway 19 in Crystal River Sunday night according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The incident occurred Sunday night just after 8 p.m. when 47-year-old Curtis Dyess was traveling on his 1987 Harley Davidson motorcycle headed southbound on US Highway 19 near the intersection of West Bentbow Path when for some unknown reason, Dyess stopped his motorcycle in the middle of the road.

After stopping in the roadway, the motorcycle reportedly fell over onto Dyess’s leg.

Behind Dyess was a 2014 GMC Acadia traveling in the same lane as Dyess.

The driver of the GMC, 31-year-old Thomas Yates, was unable to stop the vehicle in time and collided with Dyess and his motorcycle.

Dyess suffered fatal injuries during the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene when responders arrived.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, charges are pending, however, specific charges have not been named.
