FHP trooper arrested on juvenile-sex charges

GROVELAND – A Lake County sheriff’s deputy has been placed on administrative leave after officials believed he might have ignored the sexual abuse of a teenager by a Florida Highway Patrol trooper that included the patrolman tying the child to a swing.

Chad Robert Corriveau, of Groveland and a FHP trooper since 2009, was arrested Friday on charges of sexual battery on a teenage girl that stems incidents that reportedly occurred between last November and January. He also is charged with showing obscene material to a minor.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officials were tipped off Sept. 7 that in November of 2016, Corriveau kissed the teen on the mouth and breasts. He then tied her to a swing set and used a sex toy on her.

And sometime during the following Thanksgiving break, he allegedly showed the child porn on his cell phone. During the Christmas break, Corriveau reportedly complained about his lack of sexual relations, asked her about her sexual experiences, took her clothes off and rubbed ice over her body.

Afterwards, he reportedly pulled out Velcro restraints with a chain, assaulted her with more sex toys and told her not to tell.

The affidavit adds the juvenile told officials that she did not want to participate in the sexual acts, but Corriveau was “short tempered and she was afraid for her safety … .

Corriveau also has been placed on administrative leave.

Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. John Herrell didn’t offer a name or any further details on the deputy or why officials think he might have known of the allegations against Corriveau. Herrell did add that the law requires law enforcement officials to report such allegations and the administrative leave is pending the outcome of an investigation.

“(The deputy) possibly knew of the abuse and failed to immediately report it as required by state statute,” Herrell said in a prepared statement released Monday.
