Semi Truck Crash Causes Damage to Overpass

CLEARWATER, Fla – A tractor-trailer carrying an excavator westbound on Roosevelt Boulevard towards I-275 found itself stuck under an overpass according to reports from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The cause of the incident was found to be the arm of the excavator, which was too tall to fit under the 16-foot high overpass.

As the tractor-trailer attempted to pass beneath it, the arm of the excavator collided with the overpass and caused damage to the north and southbound bridges.Portions of concrete fell to Roosevelt Boulevard. This resulted in road closures as crews cleared the debris and inspected the overpass.

The driver of the truck, Craig Daniel Beam, has been cited for a load height violation in connection with the incident. Engineers have inspected the overpasses involved and have cleared them for travel.

Repairs to the remaining damage will be announced at a future date.
