FRUITLAND PARK, Fla – For the last 15 years, Tracy Derr has converted his driveway, garage, and front yard into a haunted house on Halloween night.
Known as Nightmares Haunted House, the project is a one night event hosted from 6:30 p.m to 10 p.m Halloween night only. Derr and a group of friends run the project every year with the goal to “scare and entertain anyone who dares to enter.” The total structure measures around 1500 square feet of rooms. A small crew builds the haunted house as a tear-away structure in the days leading up to Halloween.
Years past have seen graveyards, electric chairs, fog machines, and plenty of lighting effects. Parents are urged to use caution and consideration when bringing their children with them to explore Nightmares Haunted House.

Reviews of the event on their Facebook page call it “better than some of the professional haunted houses” and “My favorite haunted house ever!”
The event is free to attendees, though donations are appreciated. Due to limited parking, car pooling is advised. Once located on Blue Heron Way in Eustis, the event has since moved to 5315 Twin Palms Road in Fruitland Park.
