Police Detonate Bomb Found at Ocala Hotel

OCALA — Officers from the Ocala Police Department responded to the Quality Inn Hotel located on SW College Road Saturday afternoon at approximately 1:17 p.m. after receiving phone calls reporting a suspicious object found near the hotel pool.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the object appeared to be a pipe bomb.

The hotel was immediately evacuated and the Marion County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad was dispatched to the hotel.

Bomb Squad team members were able to successfully detonate the bomb in a secure area at approximately 3:51 p.m., according to reports.

Investigators are still investigating the incident but have stated that they do not believe there are any more threats.
