Ocala Police Initiates Two-Week Traffic Focus for Busy Highway

OCALA, Fla. — Beginning September 25th, Ocala Police will initiate a two-week period of high traffic enforcement on Highway 200 from SW 20th Street to I-75. Heavier patrol presence should be expected.

This traffic focus initiative is intended to promote safe driving habits as we approach the busy holiday season.

The focus will be geared towards improper lane changes and violations of rights of ways and red lights. These violations are among the most common infractions reported.

Earlier in September, the department ran a focus from 464 to SE 25th Avenue in Ocala as well as one on State Road 40. These zones are chosen due to high crash volume and the focus will continue to a new zone every two weeks.

To date, in 2018 the department has responded to over 1,300 vehicle related accidents.

The focus is being announced on social media using #drivesafeocala to promote safe driving habits and deter common violations that can lead to accidents.
