A pilot was declared deceased after a small aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the Leeward Air Ranch in Ocala Wednesday morning according to a Marion County Fire Rescue Facebook post.
Firefighters were dispatched to the crash site at approximately 10:31 a.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting the crash.
Upon arrival, firefighters found the plane upside down and were able to see the pilot still in the cockpit.
The pilot was pronounced deceased and responders immediately worked to contain a fuel leak from the aircraft until the plane could be removed.
The scene was later handed over to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.
The Federal Aviation Administration (F.A.A.) and the National Transportation Safety Board were also called in to assist in the investigation.
The name of the pilot has not been released.
