Sumter County Deputies responded to a call at the Linden Cemetery on HWY 50 in Webster, FL where a man told Deputies he was shot in the head by his brother after a dispute over a tractor. The victim states that he and his brother were arguing over a tractor when the argument became physical and ended with his brother shooting the victim in the head with a 9MM pistol. EMS treated the victim on the scene who was later airlifted to Lakeland Regional Medical Center and is currently in stable condition as of this morning. The victim suffered several skull fractures which required stitches and is in good condition.
The brother, Mark Caines, fled the scene before SCSO arrived. Deputies issued a BOLO for Mark Caine which resulted in a search with the help of Hernando and Hillsborough county law enforcement. After receiving a tip that the suspect would be back in town, Deputies arrested Mr. Caines at his deceased father’s house at 5:30 pm without incident.
The suspect was charged with one count of Attempted Premeditated Murder and is being held without bond.
