Argument over parking space led to Astor shooting death, sheriff’s official said

ASTOR – A shootout at Grasshopper Lake in Astor on Wednesday that left one man dead apparently was sparked over a parking space argument, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday.

Michael Allen, 50, of Umatilla, has been identified as the deceased.

According to Lt. John Herrell, sheriff’s spokesman, Aaron Czajkowski, 43, and his wife, Denise Czajkowski 48, both of Paisley, were at the lake with their dog. Allen, 50, and his girlfriend, Chrystal Barnett, 33, both of Umatilla, arrived afterwards.

An argument immediately began between the parties over Allen’s parking near the Czajkowskis’ vehicle,” Herrell said in a prepared statement.

“The altercation became physical between the two men and escalated to the point at which they armed themselves and began shooting,” Herrell added.

Allen died on the scene.

Denise Czajkowski also was injured and flown to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. No further details have been released on the investigation or the shooting, including the condition of the wife.

An autopsy showed Allen died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Herrell on Wednesday had released only limited details of the shooting.
