OCALA – An arrest has been made in a fatal accident that occurred in Marion Oaks in April according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.
Troopers responded to an accident at the intersection of Marion Oaks Boulevard and Southeast 145th Street on April 14th at 5:00 pm. after a vehicle struck a concrete pole.
According to the report, 19-year-old Ethan Ruiz was driving his 1997 Honda south on Marion Oaks Boulevard with 17-year-old Charisma Francisco in the passenger seat when his vehicle spun out of control causing it to leave the road and strike a concrete utility pole on the passenger’s side.
Ruiz was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center by Shands AirCare where he was listed in serious condition.
Francisco was pronounced dead at the scene by Marion County Fire Rescue.
After the investigation of the incident, troopers issued an arrest warrant for Ruiz.
Ruiz was arrested on Friday, November 18th and charged with involuntary vehicular manslaughter.
He was booked at the Marion County Jail where he is currently being held in lieu of a $30,000 bond.
