Troopers Search for Suspect in Fatal Citrus County Hit-and-Run

LECANTO, Fla. – Troopers are seeking help in identifying and locating a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred Friday night according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Troopers responded to the intersection of West Southern Street and South Fairland Terrace at approximately 10:20 p.m. Friday night after a report of a hit-and-run accident.

Upon arrival, Troopers discovered that 24-year-old Dina Towers was walking eastbound along the outer edge of West Southern Street when she was struck from behind by a vehicle described as a low-profile recreation type vehicle that was traveling westbound on West Southern Street.

After striking Towers, the vehicle then left the scene without stopping to render aid or wait for officers to arrive.

Towers was airlifted to Ocala Regional Hospital where she was later pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained during the incident.
