City of Clermont Wins City of Spirit Award

CLERMONT — The City of Clermont won the 2018 City of Spirit Award during the 10th Annual Florida Municipal Achievement Awards.

Clermont was one of three cities to win an award. The City of Largo and City of Miami Beach were the other award winners.

The Florida Municipal Achievement Awards Program was started in 2009 as a way to give deserved recognition to cities for “superior and innovative efforts” in three categories; City Spirit Award, Florida Citizenship Award, and Environmental Stewardship.

Clermont was awarded the City of Spirit Award for its efforts in the Oakhurst Project. This project targeted the neighborhood of Oakhurst, previously crime-ridden, and brought police, residents, and volunteers together in an effort to change it.

All of the volunteers worked hard on beautification, encouraging a sense of community, and safety and friendliness of the environment.

Their efforts were successful and now the neighborhood is crime free.
