Clermont pair killed in Florida Turnpike crash

CLERMONT, Fla. – A Clermont pair was killed Sunday night on the Florida Turnpike when their vehicle veered onto the shoulder of the road and plowed into a parked SUV, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

David Howard, 39, the driver of the 2008 Chrysler PT, and his passenger, Michele Green, 41, died at the scene.

The crash occurred about 9 p.m. at mile marker 269.5 in Orange County.

According to the report, the unoccupied 1996 Jeep SUV was hauling a pick-up truck on a trailer and stopped on the right shoulder. The PT was traveling southbound on the Turnpike when for unknown reasons it veered onto the right shoulder and rear-ended the trailer.

Both Howard and Green had been wearing seatbelts.

The report added as of Monday morning the crash remained under investigation and alcohol tests were pending against Howard.
