UMATILLA, Fla. — A Umatilla couple was arrested after allegedly forging several checks from an elderly woman whom the couple was supposed to be caring for.
According to an arrest report, officers from the Umatilla Police Department spoke with the victim’s son who told officers that the victim’s nephew, 49-year-old Stephen Timmerman and Timmerman’s wife, 61-year-old Tina Timmerman had been taking advantage of his mother while they were supposed to be caring for her.
After speaking to the victim, officers learned that Timmerman and his wife moved in with his aunt to help care for her in exchange for a place to live.
The report stated that the victim gave Mr. Timmerman permission to use her checking account but only to pay for household bills.
According to the victim, Timmerman and his wife wrote a total of 18 checks to themselves from the victim’s account totaling to over $3,500 and cashed them at the bank.
At some point during the last few months, the victim was transferred to a nursing home during which time the Timmermans continued writing checks to themselves.
Tina was arrested and charged with exploitation of the elderly, grand theft from a person over 65 years of age, and uttering a forged instrument. She was also subsequently charged with failure to appear due to an outstanding warrant from an unrelated case.
Tina was transported to the Lake County Jail where she was then released less than two hours from the time of her booking after posting a $21,000 bond.
Stephen was arrested and charged with exploitation of the elderly, grand theft from a person over 65 years of age, forgery, and uttering a forged instrument.
Stephen was also transported to the Lake County Jail where he was released nearly two hours later after posting a $16,000 bond.
