Court Hearing Continued in the Case of Motorcycle Accident Victim

TAVARES – Jose Omar Azua was scheduled to appear in court Monday morning for arraignment on manslaughter charges after an accident that resulted in the death of 54-year-old Lori Dudley.

Dudley was riding her Harley-Davidson when a silver Saturn wagon struck her causing her to fall off of her bike and into the windshield of the Saturn. She was taken to Leesburg Regional Medical Center where she died as a result of her injuries.

Azua is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident and felony manslaughter after he turned himself into Leesburg Police a couple of days after the accident. In his statement to police, Azua admitted to being the driver of the vehicle at the time of the accident. Detectives arrested Azua due to his statement on August 23rd.

According to court records, Azua’s arraignment hearing was continued due to a request submitted by the state. His hearing will now be held on October 10th at 8:30 am at the Lake County Judicial Building.

Court officials were unable to provide a reason as to why the State Attorney’s Office requested a continuance.

Azua was not present during the hearing Monday morning. His attorney, Hiram Rodriguez-Garcia was present on his behalf.
