LEESBURG – A Leesburg woman was pronounced dead after a fatal accident that occurred on the corner of Jones Drive and County Road 468 near Stokes Seafood Market on Friday night at approximately 9:15 pm according to Florida Highway Patrol.
A report released by FHP Sgt. Kim Montes stated that 23-year-old Colton Craine was traveling southbound on County Road 468, commonly referred to as “red road” by locals, when for an unknown reason he lost control of his 1991 Jeep.
The Jeep crossed over the northbound lanes of CR 468 and onto the shoulder of the road causing it to strike a tree and guardrail.
The passenger of the vehicle, 21-year-old Megan Wisdom was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Craine was airlifted to Orlando Regional Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.
According to Montes, the crash is currently under investigation. The results of a blood test are pending to determine if alcohol was involved in the accident.
