THE VILLAGES – Sumter County Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for two men after they distributed over $300 in counterfeit twenty dollar bills at WalMart in The Villages on July 1st.

Surveillance footage from WalMart shows the two men splitting up inside the store and making several purchases at different registers throughout the store.

The men were described as being white or possibly Hispanic. They were seen getting into a white passenger car, although WalMart employees or Deputies were unable to tell the make or model of the vehicle due to the quality of the surveillance video.

The investigation is still open and Deputies are asking that anyone with any information or that can identify these two men, to contact Detective Joshua Greenwood at (352) 689-4612 or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).

It is possible these men may still be trying to use counterfeit bills in the Sumter, Lake, and Marion county areas. Make sure you check all of your bills that you receive from stores before leaving the register. If you are a business owner, take some time to make sure your employees know how to spot a counterfeit bill. You can see this brochure from the Secret Service to learn more about how to spot a counterfeit bill.
