Donate your Shoes to Benefit Lake County Library

Mount Dora, Flo. — The goal is to collect around 5,000 pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes through the months of September and October.

This fundraising is organized by Friends of the Library Mount Dora, for the upgrade of materials, books, and furnishings of the Children’s area at the W T Bland Public Library in Mount Dora which is part of the Lake County Library System.

Collection boxes for gently worn, new and used shoes are located at W. T. Bland Library, 1995 N. Donnelly Street, Mount Dora and at the following Mount Dora businesses: Becker’s Best Shoes, 402 N. Donnelly Street; Matamo Designs, 100 E. 5th Avenue; Meant to Bee Treasures, 822 N. Donnelly Street; Essential Therapies Garden Spa, 1518 N. Donnelly Street; and Papilio, 120 West Fifth Avenue.

The amount of money raised will be determined by the total weight of the shoes collected. Through a social enterprise, the shoes will be redistributed to a network of micro-enterprise partners in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are scarce and many residents can’t afford shoes, plus the environmental gain of having shoes, still in good conditions, out of the landfills.

Mount Dora Library Association is a non-profit 501(c) 3 Inc. for the W.T. Bland Public Library and the total amount they need to support the children’s Library Renovation Project is $150k. For that, they will have several donation cans at local downtown Mt. Dora merchants and retailers. Also, you can help the Library with the Family Sponsorship Brick sale. Selling bricks with family name or crest or business logo inscribed on the brick to be placed as pavers at the front lawn of the Library.
