Drunk Driver Kills Three Leesburg Residents

ST. PETERSBURG – A Leesburg family is dead after an accident on the Howard Frankland Bridge involving a drunk driver Friday night.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 25-year-old Joshua Eric Burbank was traveling in a 2014 Honda Civic on the inside center lane of I-275 near mile marker 33 when he lost control of his car and entered the inside lane hitting the Leesburg family’s 2012 GMC Sierra pickup.

The impact sent the pickup into a spin causing it to overturn several times and eventually rolled over a barrier wall on the bridge and landed in the water below.

The occupants of the pickup have not yet been identified pending next of kin notification. Troopers stated that the 76-year-old father and his 73-year-old wife were both pronounced dead at the scene. Their 52-year-old son was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

During their investigation, Troopers found that Burbank was driving under the influence.

Burbank was arrested and charged with three counts of DUI Manslaughter and one count of DUI Property Damage. He was released several hours later after posting a $61,000 bond.
