Dump Truck Crashes Into Overpass Causing Traffic Backup on I-75

LAKE PANASOFFKEE, Fla. – Motorists traveling northbound on Interstate 75 Wednesday morning were delayed after a dump truck struck an overpass on the Interstate causing traffic to back up for more than seven miles according to Florida Highway Patrol reports.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:05 a.m. when 60-year-old Robert Givens was traveling in his 2007 Mack 700 dump truck with the dump bed raised on Interstate 75 in the center lane near mile marker 324 when he attempted to travel under the overpass for County Road 514.

Givens collided with the overpass causing the bed to come completely off of the truck’s frame.

Troopers closed all northbound lanes of I-75 as well as CR-514 and diverted all traffic at Exit 312 (County Road 470 to Lake Panasoffkee).

Givens was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he is currently being treating for serious injuries.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.

Both roads will remain closed and all traffic will continue to be diverted until inspectors can determine the structural integrity of the overpass.
