Sumter County – Private aircraft from all over Florida will grace the skies in a celebration of Spring on April 15 at 9 a.m. The event, a joint collaboration between the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County and local pilots, will benefit the Humane Society.
Attendees will be given the opportunity to learn about private aviation and the steps to becoming a pilot. Visitors can also visit the SPCA’s welcome table, where they will find many items available for pet lovers. They are also invited to share in a $5 pancake breakfast at the FreeFlight Airfield from 9 – 11 a.m. Event organizer, Frank Arenas, has opened up his expanding aviation facility to share aviation knowledge and experience, along with volunteers from the Villages Flyers Club.
The event offers food, music, prizes, and up-close aircraft viewing, as well as a chance to win $100 worth of Florida Lottery scratch-offs. Guests can pay $10 per chance to win, with the drawing taking place at 11:45. Funds raised from this event will benefit the animals in need under the SPCA’s care. During and after the event, until 4 p.m, the Humane Society will have adoptable animals ready to meet at their shelter not far from the Fly-In festivities for interested adopters.
The City of Coleman will be hosting an Easter egg hunt adjacent to the Fly-In at 10 a.m. Attendees to the Fly-In are encouraged to participate in both activities.
The airfield is located at 1511 Taylor Avenue in Coleman, just off US Hwy 301. A $5 parking donation to park at the airport parking lot will also benefit the Humane Society.
