EUSTIS, Fla. – A Eustis woman was arrested on animal cruelty charges Monday after deputies discovered several malnourished horses at the “Kings Cove Horse Rescue” located on Huff Road in Eustis.
According to a press release, officials with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Animal Enforcement Unit received an anonymous tip on July 12 in reference to possible neglect. Officials went to the home to investigate and spoke with the owner of Kings Cove Horse Rescue, Angel King.
King was given a plan to improve the horses’ health.
Officials stated when they returned for a follow up on July 14, they determined that King had not complied with the agreed plan to nourish the animals.
According to the release, a veterinarian employed by Lake County Animal Services evaluated the animals and found seven horses “well below” what an acceptable health rating would be.
After submitting their findings to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Agricultural Unit, a warrant was issued for King’s arrest on July 17.
King was arrested and charged with seven felony counts of animal cruelty. She was transported to the Lake County Jail where she is being held in lieu of a $35,000 bond.
